Why it is essential for our straws to be BPA-free and why you should avoid BPA products.

Why it is essential for our straws to be BPA-free and why you should avoid BPA products.

Have you seen this little emblem on our WonderSip Straws packaging and tags that come attached to our reusable straws?

Well, that little logo means our product is BPA-FREE, which was super important in the creation of our straws!

When first manufacturing our WonderSip Straws, we knew we wanted them to be BPA-free. We also wanted the reusable straw to be safely placed in the dishwasher after each use (Yes, WonderSip Straws are also Dishwasher Safe!). Thus, we did not want any of the harmful chemicals to be leaking off of the straws over time.

BPA is a chemical compound also known as Bisphenol A and is commonly used in a lot of commercially found hard plastics.

BPA is often found in disposable water bottles, milk cartons, cans, and even the thermal paper receipts that you receive at most stores after your purchase. This makes it often quite difficult to avoid harmful chemicals.

The BPA problem has become so widespread that traces of BPA are often found when conducting tests on urine samples.

Because of the increase, several countries across the globe have banned BPA-containing plastics altogether!

Research has shown that these plastics that contain BPA can harm your body's endocrine system, which deals with your system’s ability to correctly process hormones (such as estrogen). BPA often enters the body after the extended use of a plastic product and or after the plastic product has been heated. It will then start to leak into whatever is being ingested off of the plastic surface. The chemical bonds that keep the BPA chemical compound together break up when heated up and so that is how the chemical ends up leaking onto your food and skin.

Once it has infiltrated your body, it can cause all sorts of problems over time and as you continue to use BPA-filled plastic products.

Health problems that may arise include:

  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Decreased fertility
  • Obesity
  • Thyroid Issues
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Impaired Neurological Development in children
  • Cancer
  • Lung disease

Check out this video from the youtube channel SciShow that further explains the problem with BPA.

Now that you know just how bad BPA, bisphenol A, can potentially be and how negatively it can affect your health, you can understand why it was so crucial to WonderSip to manufacture reusable straws that were free of the chemical compound.

Remember to keep these facts in mind the next time you go out shopping for products that may contain BPA.

Hopefully, if you were not already convinced on why you should purchase our WonderSip Reusable BPA-FREE Straws, all of this research into why you show avoid BPA laced plastic products will sway you.
